American Revolutionary War Battle Project
Description of Project:
Students will pick either to do a research paper and presentation on a major battle or a historical person from the Revolutionary War. Students must do both paper and presentation. Then for extra credit they can do a battle field diorama or a visual display. Instructions for each project and rubrics are below.
Battle Research Paper:
Students will select, research, and prepare a two-page paper focusing on one of the major battles from the American Revolutionary War. This paper will focus on the events that transpired, the leaders for both sides, the outcomes of the battle, and the influence this battle had on the war as a whole. This paper will be researched and prepared mainly in Mrs. King’s class. Mr. Southwick will score the paper for content, while Mrs. King will score the paper for how the research was conducted and overall format. For Mr. Southwick’s class, this paper will be worth 50 total points. A rubric for how Mr. Southwick will grade the paper will be attached. This paper will be due on December _____.
Biography Research Paper:
Students will select, research, and prepare a two-page paper focusing on one of the major historical characters from the American Revolutionary War. This paper will focus on the person's early life, major events they were involved in, and the importance of their role in influencing the war. This paper will be researched and prepared mainly in Mrs. King's class. Mr. Southwick will score the paper for content, while Mrs. King will score the paper for how the research was conducted and overall format. For Mr. Southwick's class, this paper will be worth 50 total points. A rubric for how this paper will be scored is below.
Research Presentation
Students will create a 3-5 minute Google Slideshow on their battle or person. Slides must be no less than 8 slides in length and can include a short video (no more than 4 minutes in length). A rubric for this presentation is as follows:
Battlefield Diorama:
Students will create a 3-D diorama of their battle. This diorama will be constructed in a shoebox or small cardboard box. A rubric will be attached to this sheet highlighting how this project needs to be constructed and how this project will be graded. It is stressed highly that students will be deducted points for using army men that look like they come from the WWII or Vietnam War Era. Soldiers need to look like period soldiers. This does not mean that students need to go and purchase period soldiers, however past dioramas that look the nicest have had Revolutionary War period soldiers purchased or created by students. I give extra credit for projects I want to keep. Additionally, it needs to be stressed that students need to use what they find around their home for this project. (One of the coolest dioramas I have had cannons made out of wagon wheel pasta and .22 shells. This project is worth a total of 50 points. The Diorama will be due on December 10th.
These are examples of awesome above what I am looking for work.
You can choose from these battles, once you make your choice you must do that battle.
Visual Display
Students will create a poster board display of their person. It should have a biographical sketch, including background information and interesting facts. It should highlight which side of the war they were on and their reasons for being on this side. It should discuss the impact this person had on the outcome of the war or on the Revolutionary War society; how might the war or society have been different if not for the person's contributions? Include no less than 2 pictures of this person with captions explaining each. This project is a total of 50 points extra credit.
